(Lynott ?}
aka "The Pablo Mix" version
I recently discovered this alternate version, which after transcribing
the lyrics I believe is not exactly a new version although it is a little different.
To my ears, and based on the lyrics, this version is an edited mix of portions of
the recordings of version 1 and version 2 to create a 3rd "new" version.

You should have seen it
And when I tell you what he'd done
And like the soldier who's born to fight
Helives in legends
Don't let him slip away
They wouldn't listen
They would not listen
I'll run with the rebels
I trust the legend, ah
Don't let it slip away, Oh no

An alternate version, known as THE PABLO MIX ...

How they tore him down
They lined him up against the wall
And they shot him to the ground
You should have seen it
There were tears in his eyes
His body was broken
And his spirit did not materialize
There is no reason
For this to pass
He's broken now
Alas
He was the child
He was the chosen one
You should have seen it
How they broke him down
With a knife in his back
Brought him down
With a knife in his back
And no ground
With a knife in his back
He sees the wisdom of the ways of night
He knows he has to seek another word
For the brave are the lovers of the ones he heard
He'll let the Angel
Into the night
His heart is broken
He knows he fights
He sensed the ways of a monster
Walking through another fire
You see him now
Silver tongued and knows it now
And the words of wisdom
He knows them well
He calls it all a cause to rebel
And like the demon that knows us all
He fights the fight
He fights to fall
And though he goes he knows
He lives way out in the fire
Don't let him slip away
There is a demon in his eye
And he know that he has to pay, oh ya
Don't let him slip away
Don't let him slip away
Like a heart and a soul in the dungeons
He knows he got away
'N like a demon he knows he lives within the fire
'N like a demon he knows he lives within the fire
You should have seen it
How they tore him down
He was a bright spirit
Burned down
They would not listen
Just to see it pass
You would not believe it
Oh no, alas
I wish I'd seen them
And told them now
I get so broke up
I get so broke up
To a word he said
And now he plays the blues ...
into the fire
Like a demon he's into the fire
I'll fight with the pack
I am a leader of all the men
That you left behind your back
I will take over the dungeons
I will destroy the jailer
I am the man, I know I will
I believe it to be so
I will fight until I die
Until we slow up
We learned half the reasons
Just bare two hands
Take it now, fight for it
On demand
Tell me the reasons for it
We must make our stand
We'll fight and fight and fight
To have the upper hand
There is a rhythm
I know this to be true
The words that I preach were once said
by somebody who stole a forty-four too
I do it. I feel it. I can touch it sometimes
But I need the power and the glory
To make it mine for all time
There is a pain and a vengence in the glory
Don't let it slip away
There is a pain in the story
So don't ever let it go away
I believe in the power and the glory
Until this day
